Responsibilities of Canyon Vista Partners include:
Assist students during physical education class
- Initiate appropriate social conversation at the beginning of class
- Engage with assigned student partner (athlete) during warm-up, activity, and cool-down
- PLEASE DO NOT LOSE YOUR PARTNER
- Help athlete understand expectation of skill task or activity
- Give athletes many opportunities to participate when participating in activities
- Lead warm-ups with athlete(s); Demonstrate and practice skills with athlete
- Help set up and take down equipment
- Help select appropriate equipment for athletes level of participation
- Lead class warm-ups
- Help record data for students APE goals
Daily duties for partners
- Arrive on time
- Dress appropriately for activity
- Participate positively
- You must wear athletic shoes and appropriate clothing. Examples of inappropriate dress include: high heels, sandals, loose fitting clothing, see through clothing, dresses, skirts. Bring a change of clothes if necessary.

- No cell phones
- If I see your cell phone I will take it up and points will be taken off your daily grade
- Positively reinforce your “athlete” and be enthusiastic
- Participate in all activities
- Not participating will result in losing points from your weekly grade
- Help teach and demonstrate appropriate social skills
- No hugs… hi-5’s and fist bumps
- No horsing around with other partners

Emergency Plan
- From time to time emergency action might have to be taken. If for any reason a student is having a meltdown or seizure, I will have you all take everyone outside of the classroom or gym and wait while the staff deals with the situation.
Students as Partners have the potential to interact with students who have conduct or behavior disorders related to the disabling condition. In rare cases, Partners may experience unpredictable behavior by a student with a disability within the class setting that is considered unacceptable in a typical school setting. Any such action should be reported to the APE teacher immediately for intervention. Staff is trained to monitor and intervene immediately should any unsafe or inappropriate behavior occur.
Grading Criteria:
Six Weeks Grade will be made of up:
50% Participation (DAILY)
- Participation- weekly grades will be taken based on participation, attitude, and positive interaction with athletes.
- Each day, each aspect of participation will be tracked to make up the weekly grade.

- Positive Interaction with athletes
- Although reds and blues are not a requirement for this class, tennis/athletic shoes and non-restricting and non-revealing clothing is required each day.
- 10 points a day for shoes
- 10 points a day for proper attire
- In and out of class assignments will be given such as skills assessments, mini health lessons, and articles to read and respond to.
10% of Semester Grade will be projects.
1. Fall Semester Project- Students will be assigned a disability to research and present to the class. You will be responsible for finding the definition, cause, characteristics of an individual, medical considerations, and teaching tips for your assigned disability.
2. Spring Semester Project- Students will provide feedback of the year to the teacher via the class blog.
“You are a very important part of the Partners program and are integral to the success of the program.” Please adhere to the responsibilities listed above. Be on time, participate, and dress appropriately. You are the highlight of these students day; the success of this class depends on your attitude. The experiences and connections you will make in this class will last a lifetime. If you cannot follow the classroom instructions you will be placed in the PE class held at the same time.
